Google Searches for ‘Garage Conversion’ Have Doubled in 2020 Through National Lockdown

Our latest research has revealed that the UK has been searching twice as much as they did last year for tips to convert their garages.

The data, which compares Google searches from January – August 2020 vs the same time period in 2019, has also revealed what exactly we as a nation are choosing to convert our garages into:

• The most searched phrase in both 2019 & 2020 was ‘convert garage into bedroom’ as Brits look to add value onto their properties
• The biggest percentage increase in searches in 2020 was for ‘convert garage into bar’ as pubs and bars closed from March 2020 due to COVID-19 Lockdown restrictions and people looked to create their own outdoor space to have a pint
• There was a 255% increase in searches for ‘convert garage into gym’ as gyms across the nation also closed until July 2020 and we looked for other places to keep fit
• ‘convert garage into office’ jumped by 191% as many in the UK were urged to ‘work from home where possible’ by the government.

The data is from Google’s Keyword Planner Tool for January 2019 – August 2020 vs the same time period in 2019 and analyses 16 of the most popular ‘convert garage into…’ search queries.
